CASTROL |
HOW IT BEGAN My father had two CASTROL containers in his garage in the early 1950's. One was made of cardboard in the shape of a truncated cone; the other was a glass jar. I always associated the name with castor oil but it was much later when I learned that it originally used it as its base, and hence the name. I inherited the two containers along with a 5 gallon drum. I have since kept the tins that I have used over the years - the only item I have actually bought especially is the pouring jug. I think it's a great logo. I've also saved the annual CASTROL Achievements booklets that I collected in 1953, 1954, 1957 and 1959. |
