THEATRE VISITS - 2012 |
This year I saw fewer shows than in recent years and not many of those were outstanding. I didn't get to visit London although I did see the National Theatre production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time when it was streamed to a local cinema. I thought it was superb - so different from watching a film (which I rarely do) and an experience I look forward to repeating next year. Pat Kirkwood is Angry, devised and performed by Jessica Walker in a co-production by Opera North and the Royal Exchange Theatre was a definite highlight that deserved a wider audience. The best performance I saw this year was Imogen Stubbs' in Orpheus Descending, also at the Royal Exchange. I visited my local theatre, The Thwaites Empire, many times where I saw some excellent performances in Of Mice and Men, Stringers Last Stand and A Kind of Alaska. I also saw my worst ever play-The Farndale Murder Mystery. I left at the interval, a thing I have only done once before in 60 years of theatregoing. |

I have never been a fan of pantomimes but I enjoyed going to see two of my granddaughters in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. They were great, of course, as were Stephen Beckett (a terrific villan), Jonny Weldon (an engaging Jack) and Emily Tierney (a lovely fairy). |
