HOW IT BEGAN My grandfather (who was the son of a sea captain) subscribed to a magazine in the 1930's called Blue Peter, which was all about sea travel. About the same time my father bought Ships and Ship Models. I inherited 50 of them plus 32 Blue Peters. The first magazine I bought was Meccano Magazine and, true to form, I have saved them to this day. Mine are from the mid 1950s but I have acquired one of each of the style changes in the '60s and '70s. Certain magazines such as Punch and The Illustrated London News I enjoyed reading in my teenage years and have collected examples. Others I have bought for the adverts or for the period designs. |
