MATCHBOXES |
HOW IT BEGAN I never intended to collect matchboxes! I successfully bid £3 or £4 for a collection in an auction for my eldest son in the early '80s. In 2005 I saw a large cardboard box full at an 'antique' centre for £5. Most were still live so it seemed a bargain - I will never need to buy matches again. My son's collection had been relegated to his attic so I asked if I could have them. Since then I have found albums of labels on stalls in Preston and Huntingdon for a just few pounds. Total outlay - about £20. Number of boxes/labels/books - about 1750. I have more sorting to do but all the labels are in two new albums: British-alphabetically; Foreign-by country. Ones advertising cigarettes tie in with my packet collection and some of the surreal B&H ones are framed. |
